an exercise in designing seven spaces within the given nine-square grid using only vertical surfaces
I chose the word "curve" that would act as the theme for our design logic and geometry. from my main word and associated words such as arc, bend, and round; I built an alphabet of shapes that I would utilize in my design process: a circle, an ellipse and an arc. instead of adding vertical surfaces to the nine-square grid, I carved out my seven spaces to play with ideas of solid versus void. In addition, the use of curved spaces in combination with the decision to carve allowed to create moments of compression and expansion. thus, creating a different atmosphere depending on where you are situated within the pavilion, feeling compressed within the corridors versus feeling free in one of the seven spaces.
